2010 Calendar

School Days: 2010 Calendar Poster

I was to design a calendar that contained all 12 months. Images were forbidden ,  so it had to be done entirely using typography.  There was no limitation on the number of typefaces that could be used, but the final poster had to feel “wholistic” in its “Visual Vocabulary”.

All ten federal holidays were to be included: New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Veterens Day, Christmas Day, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Day, Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, and Thanksgiving.

Additionally, It was important that the calendar carry a conceptual theme.

What I chose to do was keep the Calendar very minimal, with a prominent typographic display. It also uses a myriad of warm, cold, and cool colors to match the changing seasons. The months are positioned in a way to create a clear movement from them into the dates located beneath. Each holiday is covered with an arrow, that further directs the eyes to the very bottom list containing the names of the holidays. I did this because there are only certain holidays I know  from the top of my head, and I’m sure I am not the only person like this.  As you see, this was created for 2010, there were plans to make one for 2013 but that has now been moved to 2014 so stay tuned.
